The Future Is for Everyone: Sensing Art with AI Glasses
At Milan’s Pinacoteca di Brera, AI glasses are helping people who are blind or have low vision experience eight masterpieces — hands-free, without a phone, and in their own time.“Sensing Art – Discovering Masterpieces Beyond What Meets the Eye” is a new pilot from Meta, Pinacoteca di Brera and EssilorLuxottica, built with the community it’s for.
Built on Brera’s DescriVedendo path—a slow-art method developed by Associazione Nazionale Subvedenti (ANS) that translates a painting’s shapes, composition and details into words—the tour lets a visitor stand in front of a work, activate recognition from the glasses, and listen through open-ear speakers. That means a morphological description, art-historical context and artist biography for each work, plus short orientation tracks to move from one masterpiece to the next, while staying aware of the people and space around them.
In collaboration with ANS, Unione Italiana dei Ciechi e degli Ipovedenti (UICI) and Fondazione Istituto dei Ciechi di Milano. Developed through testing and consultation with people who are blind or have low vision.
