Ao contrário do que muitos pensam, com os atuais hodômetros digitais é mais fácil adulterar a quilometragem marcada do que nos antigos, analógicos.
Em compensação, se antes era difícil determinar se o odômetro tinha sido reduzido ou não, hoje já existem maneiras também eletrônicas de detectar a fraude. Em primeiro lugar, na própria central eletrônica do automóvel, que continua indicando a quilometragem rodada original.
Em segundo lugar, as concessionárias possuem um sistema de interligação e elas sabem quando foram realizadas as revisões. E, a partir dessas informações, não é difícil determinar se houve ou não fraude no odômetro.
