Aochi, un profesor de alemán, se reencuentra con su viejo e impredecible amigo Nakasago.
Pronto, ambos se ven envueltos en un triángulo amoroso fantasmal, marcado por los celos, la muerte y el misterio de un viejo disco de pasta.
Pero lo que empieza como un drama de época, rápidamente se convierte en algo mucho más extraño y retorcido.
Dirigida por Seijun Suzuki, la película prioriza la libre asociación y la poesía visual por sobre la explicación racional.
El director mezcla dobles idénticos, geishas misteriosas, erotismo surrealista y espectros en una atmósfera de pesadilla psicodélica y por momentos ocurrente.
Cada plano desborda colores vibrantes y encuadres tan locos que parecen pinturas en movimiento.
Eso sí: para disfrutarla vas a tener que superar su ritmo pausado y sus diálogos enigmáticos.
Pero una vez que entres en su sintonía, vas a descubrir una obra de culto alucinante que merece ser rescatada.
