Nella primavera del 2020, all’ospedale Carlo Poma di Mantova, il primario di pneumologia Giuseppe #DeDonno e il collega del Servizio trasfusionale Massimo Franchini cominciarono a trattare i malati di Covid con il plasma dei guariti. Quando arrivò il momento di una sperimentazione nazionale, però, la scelta cadde sullo studio Tsunami, promosso da Aifa e Istituto superiore di sanità e guidato dall’Azienda ospedaliero-universitaria di Pisa insieme al Policlinico San Matteo di Pavia. I risultati, resi noti nell’aprile 2021, non evidenziarono benefici significativi del plasma rispetto alla terapia standard. Pochi mesi dopo, nell’estate dello stesso anno, De Donno veniva trovato senza vita. Oggi quella vicenda è tornata a Palazzo San Macuto, davanti alla Commissione parlamentare d’inchiesta sulla gestione dell’emergenza Covid.
A riportarla in aula è #FeliceManti, giornalista del Giornale, che nel 2020 firmò insieme a Edoardo Montolli una serie di articoli sul presunto conflitto di interessi del Pd sul plasma.
Querele o diffide? La risposta non lascia spazio a ripensamenti: “Tutto ciò che ho scritto era una rappresentazione veritiera della realtà, e quindi inevitabilmente qualcuno si è sentito toccato. Di fronte a una terapia domiciliare sostanzialmente inesistente, basata su tachipirina e vigile attesa, il professor De Donno aveva provato a sperimentare una cura basata sul plasma: si prendeva il plasma delle persone guarite e lo si somministrava ai malati, nella speranza che gli anticorpi li aiutassero a guarire. Non si può parlare di trial, perché è stato fatto tutto in maniera spontanea. Però quella cura funzionava, e in quel periodo tristissimo che ricordiamo tutti l’esperienza di De Donno divenne una best practice”.
