Nach den Wahlniederlagen der SPD bei den Landtagswahlen in Rheinland-Pfalz und Baden-Württemberg sagte die SPD-Vorsitzende Bärbel Bas im Interview mit den ARD-Tagesthemen, die Frage nach neuen Köpfen an der Parteispitze wurde „offensiv angesprochen“. Man war in der Führung aber „einhellig der Meinung, dass es keinen Sinn macht, jetzt eine lange Debatte über neue Köpfe zu führen“. Nach den Gründen für die Wahlniederlagen angesprochen, sagte Bas, der SPD hafte eine Image an, „dass wir uns nur um die Randgruppen kümmern, was ich falsch finde“. Bei den Menschen kämen die Reformvorschläge der SPD nicht an. Bas führte an, man sei „zu vielstimmig, wollte es allen recht machen und sich mit bestimmten Gruppen nicht anlegen“. Das funktioniere nicht, ergänzte die SPD-Vorsitzende.
