El Ministerio de Defensa Nacional de China organizó una recepción en el Gran Palacio del Pueblo, en Beijing, para celebrar el 98º aniversario de la fundación del Ejército Popular de Liberación. El ministro de Defensa Nacional chino, Dong Jun, pronunció un discurso.Dong Jun rindió tributo a los hombres y mujeres de uniforme por sus contribuciones al país. Aseguró que, dado que el EPL se acerca al centenario de su fundación, las fuerzas armadas chinas deben homenajear a los veteranos revolucionarios y a los estrategas militares que fundaron el ejército chino y honrar a los mártires que dieron su vida por la causa del Partido Comunista de China y del pueblo chino. Este año, se cumple, además, el 80º aniversario de la recuperación de la soberanía sobre la región china de Taiwan tras el fin de la ocupación japonesa.
