Pakistan claims strikes in Afghanistan killed 80 Taliban fighters; Afghanistan disputes the claim
Pakistan says it has killed at least 80 fighters from the Pakistani Taliban in air strikes targeting armed groups in Afghanistan's Nangarhar and Paktika provinces.Afghan authorities dispute the claim, saying the bombardment hit a religious school and homes, killing many civilians including women and children.
Witnesses describe multiple strikes beginning at midnight. One survivor lost 15 family members, most of them children.
The escalation threatens to further destabilise already fragile relations between the two neighbours, following failed diplomatic talks and border confrontations last year.
