Dans une société népalaise résolument patriarcale, l’égalité des genres demeure un principe lointain. Sur les hauteurs de Katmandou, au monastère Amitabha, plus de cinq cents nonnes se battent quotidiennement pour faire changer les choses. Engagées pour l’autonomisation des femmes, elles n’hésitent pas à développer leur force physique en s’adonnant au kung-fu, alors même que les sports de combat sont interdits aux femmes dans le bouddhisme. Outre la promesse d’une vie meilleure, c’est ce qui a notamment poussé Lhadon, 17 ans, à quitter sa famille pour rejoindre cette communauté de femmes. Bien intégrée et fermement décidée à défendre les valeurs de l’ordre, la jeune femme se voit rapidement confier de nouvelles responsabilités. Mais l’entrée dans la vie d’adulte est loin d’être de tout repos...
