After raising questions over India’s GDP numbers, former Finance Secretary Subhash Chandra Garg says the government’s clarification and FAQs have failed to adequately address his concerns.Garg, who questioned the government’s 7.8% real GDP growth estimate for Q1 FY2026-27 in two articles for The Quint, continues to stand by his calculation of 2.6% nominal GDP growth and says the government needs to put more data in the public domain.
In this interview with @tanishka_s, Garg explains his concerns over the GDP data and responds to criticism that his calculation compares two different GDP series. He also speaks about the growing public concern over the credibility of India’s official economic data.
