Why Access to Medical Breakthroughs Matters More Than the Breakthroughs | Heidi Bluemel | TEDxModena
Medical science is advancing faster than ever. We can edit genes, harness artificial intelligence, and develop life-changing treatments that were unimaginable just decades ago. But what good is a breakthrough if the people who need it cannot access it? After years of living with Multiple Sclerosis and exhausting every available treatment, Heidi Bluemel found hope in a therapy that already existed—but remained out of reach because of barriers to access. In this powerful talk, she shares how her journey revealed a larger problem affecting millions of patients worldwide: the growing gap between scientific innovation and the healthcare systems responsible for delivering it. More than a story about Multiple Sclerosis and HSCT, this talk is a call to rethink how we define progress. Because medical breakthroughs don’t change lives on their own. Access to them does. Heidi Bluemel is an entrepreneur, patient advocate, and Multiple Sclerosis survivor whose experience with Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant (HSCT) has fueled her mission to improve patient access to life-changing medical treatments.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx Receive SMS online on sms24.me
