Mirchi Friday Classics presents: “Noshtoneerh” – Satyajit Ray’s adaptation of Rabindranath Tagore’s timeless story.

Date of Broadcast - 8th May 2026

Calcutta, late nineteenth century. A house of privilege. A silence that lingers too long.

Amal, young and newly returned from his studies, arrives to spend the summer with his cousin Bhupati and his wife, Charu. Bhupati, absorbed in his newspaper and politics, remains turned toward the world outside, while within the house Charu drifts, unseen, her solitude quietly deepening. And then Amal enters her world. What begins as easy companionship, shared words and unguarded hours, slowly shifts. What passes between them? What remains unsaid? And what, in the end, awaits their fate?
On the occasion of Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary, and during the birth month of Satyajit Ray, we bring you a dramatic reimagining of Tagore’s story, drawn from an early draft of Ray’s screenplay for the iconic film “Charulata”.
