Congressional stock trading ban: Scott Bessent jumps on board

The bipartisan push to ban congressional stock trading just got a big boost in support.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is now backing efforts to block members of Congress from trading individual stocks.

"I am pushing for a ban on single-stock trading in Congress. The American people deserve better than politicians like Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) with hedge-fund level returns. Public service should be about serving the people, not getting rich," Bessent posted on X.

LiveNOW's Andrew Craft spoke about the issue with Rep. Seth Magaziner (D-RI).

Magaziner is the lead sponsor of the TRUST in Congress Act, the bill with the broadest bipartisan support in the House to ban Members of Congress from trading individual stocks. This bill, which is co-led by Texas Republican Chip Roy, has 80 cosponsors – by far the most of any Congressional stock trading bill introduced into either chamber.
