Carles Lalueza-Fox explica qué descubrió un estudio en el que participó al comparar el genoma de personas que parecían auténticos dobles.
Los investigadores seleccionaron parejas cuyo parecido era reconocido mediante programas informáticos y encontraron que compartían más similitudes en genes relacionados con la morfología facial que personas escogidas al azar. El análisis reveló además semejanzas en otros genes descritos en relación con aspectos del comportamiento y hábitos como la dieta, el sedentarismo o el tabaquismo.
Los llamados doppelgängers no son solo una curiosidad. Su existencia plantea preguntas sobre genética, identidad y hasta sobre los límites del reconocimiento facial. Lalueza-Fox cuenta además su propia experiencia: hace años, una desconocida lo confundió en Jerusalén con alguien a quien aparentemente conocía muy bien. Quizá encontrar a nuestro doble no sea tan improbable como parece.
