British artist Eric Hebborn is considered the most brilliant student to have passed through the halls of the Royal Academy of Arts in the 1950s. He later combined his artistic talent with the skills he learned as a restorer. Today, at 57, and from his Italian villa, he has written a book that, although not yet published, will be released in London next month and has shaken the art world. The book reveals that 1,000 drawings by Hebborn hang in the world's most important museums, attributed to masters of the past. The deception was largely made possible by Hebborn's friendship with Sir Anthony Blunt, the curator of the Royal Picture Gallery and a spy in the service of Moscow, who authenticated some of the works. The National Gallery will have to decide what to do with this Saint Ivo, which is presented as the work of a 15th-century Flemish painter.
