¿De qué sirve explorar el espacio desde un país como Colombia? Julián Rodríguez, astrónomo colombiano, nos lleva a un viaje por la Antártida para explicarnos cómo, desde uno de los lugares más extremos del planeta, es posible estudiar el universo. Su charla es un llamado a valorar la ciencia, la curiosidad y el potencial que tiene América Latina de contribuir a la exploración espacial desde su propio contexto. Desde la infancia, Julián ha tenido una pasión por la astronomía y ciencias del espacio, razón por la cual se graduó como ingeniero electrónico de la Universidad Industrial de Santander y continuó sus estudios de posgrado en el Observatorio de París y en la Universidad de Paris-Saclay, al punto de culminar su posdoctorado en esta área del conocimiento. Posteriormente regresó a su natal Bucaramanga para ser profesor en la UIS y desde allí continuar con sus investigaciones científicas, además de motivar a las nuevas generaciones para el estudio de estas ciencias. Desde hace años él ha estado trabajando en la UIS con colegas y estudiantes el desarrollo de la radioastronomía en Colombia y dicha labor ha sido el motivo para liderar numerosas expediciones del Programa Antártico Colombiano.
