In the first half, only Jackson—whose shot sailed over Mohamed El-Shenawy’s goal—registered a chance of note. Egypt offered nothing in attack. The second half was equally uneventful until the 78th minute, when Mané ended the uncertainty.
In an overly sluggish contest, Senegal at least took a step forward. Though they struggled to create, they pinned Egypt back in their own half. Then came the 78th minute: Mané collected the ball at the edge of the box and unleashed a stunning strike that caught El-Shenawy by surprise, delivering justice on the scoreboard.
Senegal were the team that most wanted to reach the final. They showed greater ambition against Egypt’s frugal, counterattack-focused approach. In a flash, Mané prevented a potential injustice, crowned himself his country’s hero, and defeated Salah once again—who shed tears at the final whistle, fully aware that his last chance to win the Africa Cup of Nations had slipped away.
