Tomo-Hiko Watanabe - Zonal flows and turbulence in helical systems: a tutorial - IPAM at UCLA
Recorded 10 March 2026. Tomo-Hiko Watanabe of Nagoya University presents "Zonal flows and turbulence in helical systems: a tutorial" at IPAM's Multi-Fidelity Methods for Fusion Energy Tutorials.Abstract: This tutorial aims to describe theoretical and numerical approaches on zonal flows and turbulence in non-axisymmetric (helical) configuration. Specifically, we focus on the zonal flow response in helical systems and its impact on the turbulent transport, where results of the flux tube gyrokinetic simulation are discussed in comparison with theory and experiments. A topic on the isotope effect on transport will also be given in the literature of helical plasma confinement.
