In reaction, President Donald Trump sent over 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to the city.California Governor Gavin Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass have strongly opposed the federal action, calling it both unconstitutional and politically driven. Newsom has taken legal action against the federal government, arguing that sending in troops without state approval goes beyond federal authority and violates state rights.
