TODESFLUT IN NEPAL: Wassermassen kamen aus dem Nichts! Hunderte Touristen vermisst | WELT STREAMNach der heftigen Sturzflut in der Gebirgsregion von Nepal sind nach Behördenangaben mindestens 72 Menschen gestorben. Laut dem Sprecher der nepalesischen Polizei, Abi Narayan Kafle, suchen die Such- und Rettungskräfte weiterhin nach einer unbekannten Anzahl von Vermissten. Bislang hätten die Such- und Rettungskräfte 72 Leichen gefunden. Die Suche dauere noch an, sagte er der Deutschen Presse-Agentur.
Unter den Vermissten sind auch Hunderte Reisende. Insgesamt würden 384 Touristen, darunter mehr als 290 Ausländer etwa aus Deutschland, den USA und Spanien vermisst, sagte der leitende Beamte Santosh Panta von der nationalen Tourismusorganisation Nepal Tourism Board der Deutschen Presse-Agentur in Kathmandu.
Die Organisation berief sich dabei auf vorläufige Zahlen von Reise- und Trekkingagenturen, die Touren durch die betroffene Region organisieren. Der Großteil der Vermissten stammt demnach aus dem Nachbarland Indien.
