Who designs the HVAC for a soundproof studio?
For a normal house, the HVAC contractor can often size the equipment and route the ducts using standard residential assumptions.
A soundproof studio can be completely different.
Three small isolated rooms can have major cooling loads from musicians and equipment, significant moisture loads from people and outdoor air, and strict limits on airflow noise. The ducts also have to move air without creating a path for sound to bypass the isolation system.
On this project, the HVAC contractor told us the system was beyond his scope and needed a mechanical engineer.
That wasn't a setback. It was the right answer.
The sound isolation designer defines the mechanical requirements. The mechanical engineer turns those requirements into a working system.
