L’indagine, denominata “CORE” è stata avviata nel dicembre 2022 a seguito del tentato omicidio di un pregiudicato di Squinzano, per concludersi nel maggio 2024. L’attività investigativa ha consentito di documentare l’operatività, nel Nord Salento e in particolare nei comuni di Trepuzzi, Squinzano, Campi Salentina e Torchiarolo, di un’articolazione dell’associazione mafiosa comunemente denominata Sacra Corona Unita, nonché l’esistenza di una parallela associazione dedita al traffico di cocaina, hashish e marijuana, approvvigionate e distribuite prevalentemente a Squinzano e nei comuni limitrofi, con disponibilità di armi e ricorso a condotte violente funzionali al controllo del territorio.
