Details and thoughts below.I was interested in this game when I first saw the trailer and previews, but after playing the pre-alpha demo, it's now my most anticipated game. It was so much better than I thought and feels great to play. The combat is very satisfying, and I'm surprised there hasn't been any notable first person soulslikes that I can think of. I'm not sure if the video gives it much justice, but it feels really fresh and enjoyable to play.
Considering it's a pre-alpha there's obviously a lot of refinement to go, but from what I've played so far it's surprisingly extremely good. A couple of bugs I had which were to be expected, but the core gameplay feels very smooth overall, and quite polished regardless.
For some feedback, I'm hoping there's a bit more viability and skills that enhance perfect dodging. You can parry in this game which feels very satisfying too, but the amount of stagger damage it does to enemies makes it by far the better option. As always I wanted to see how a dodge only approach went, and it's still viable. But I'm hoping further in the skill tree there's abilities that buff perfect dodges, similar to Khazan how each one ends up doing chip damage to the boss or something like that.
Minor downsides (if you can even call them that), is just getting used to the first person perspective and trying to judge the distance of some attacks. Sometimes it felt like I was out of range and still got hit, but I think that's just moreso getting used to it. There's also times where lock on would break, and if you're too close it can be a little difficult to read some attacks. That would probably be more of an issue if there was even larger enemies or bosses you end up fighting. But I think all of those points are non-issues tbh, and just a byproduct of it being in first person.
Either way, I cannot wait for this game now. It's really well done from the demo alone, and I'm looking forward to the full release.
