In the not-so-distant 1950s, the then-Soviet Union faced a monumental challenge: to provide the necessary conditions to bring life to the desolate regions of the Far North and Siberia. In a bold attempt to master nature, and at the same time modernize the country, Soviet engineers developed a solution as radical as it was ingenious: a mobile nuclear power plant.
This is how the TES-3 was born, a secret project that combined the newly explored nuclear energy with military robustness, creating a self-propelled power plant mounted on the chassis of a war tank. Although on paper and even in practice it proved to be a viable and highly efficient solution, skepticism caused such a brilliant idea to be forced to a bureaucratic end.
