Migliaia di tonnellate di rifiuti speciali non pericolosi, raccolti nelle campagne in cui venivano abbandonati, partivano dal porto di Brindisi diretti in Bulgaria e Grecia dove non venivano smaltiti nel rispetto delle normative, ma stoccati dentro capannoni industriali dismessi. Il traffico è stato spezzato dai carabinieri del gruppo per la tutela dell’ambiente e la sicurezza energetica di Napoli che hanno arrestato sei persone (4 in carcere e 2 ai domiciliari), nelle province di Bari, Brindisi, Salerno e a Sofia (Bulgaria), su provvedimento emesso dal gip del tribunale di Lecce, per le ipotesi di reato a vario titolo di associazione a delinquere, attività organizzate per il traffico illecito di rifiuti, aggravate dalla transnazionalità, gestione illecita di rifiuti ed emissione di false fatturazioni per operazioni inesistenti. Quattordici in tutto gli indagati tra gestori di società, autisti, intermediari; sotto sequestro sono finite anche due società e 44 automezzi.
