Com este novo aumento do etanol na gasolina proposto pelo governo, de 32% para 35%, surgiram algumas propostas de parlamentares de se vender nos postos a gasolina sem nenhum etanol, a E0, e outra com apenas 10% de etanol, E10. Aplaudidas pela imprensa, essas propostas são inviáveis, pois os motores modernos exigem octanagem mínima, ou seja, resistência à compressão para evitar a combustão espontânea da mistura antes da centelha na vela, chamada de detonação ou batida de pino. E é o etanol acrescentado à gasolina que eleva sua octanagem. Tecnicamente, 20% de etanol resolveria o problema. Percentual ainda maior é para a alegria dos usineiros e tristeza do seu bolso.
