In the summer of 1683, a massive Ottoman army of 175,000 men surrounded Vienna. Inside the walls: only 16,000 defenders. For 60 days the city held on, while Ottoman sappers dug tunnels under its walls and the Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa prepared the final assault.
This is the story of the Siege of Vienna 1683, one of the most dramatic sieges in European history. You will learn why Emperor Leopold fled the city, how Count Starhemberg refused a brutal ultimatum, what the hidden underground war beneath the walls looked like, and how a coalition led by the Polish King Jan III Sobieski raced against time to reach the city. And at the end, what this battle meant for Poland a hundred years later. Receive SMS online on sms24.me
