US Threatens India With 12.5% Tariffs & Oil Sanctions | Vantage on Firstpost | N18G | 4K
The US is considering additional tariffs on India. The US Trade Secretary has published a report demanding additional 12.5% tariffs on India and 59 other countries. According to the report, the tariffs will be levied in addition to any tariffs on a country. This comes as the US accuses the 60 countries of not having policies to crackdown on imports of goods that were made using forced labour. Meanwhile, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio testified before the US Senate on foreign policy matters. During the hearing, Rubio asserted that the Trump administration was keen on ending Russian oil waivers that are in place till June 17. Though Rubio did not directly name India, ending the Russian oil waivers directly impacts New Delhi and Indian oil refiners that rely on discounted Russian oil to meet India's energy demands and export targets. These economic and diplomatic manoeuvres by the US come at a time when an American delegation is in New Delhi negotiating a bilateral trade agreement. What does this mean for India? Hem Kaur Saroya tells you more.---
