Rubio says US-Israeli strikes aim to destroy Iran’s missile and naval capabilities
The United States says its military operation against Iran is aimed at dismantling the country’s ability to threaten the region and global security.Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the operation as targeting what he called “the world’s leading hostage taker – Iran”, while he praised American forces involved in the mission.
“Take a moment to offer thoughts and prayers to brave Americans,” said Rubio. “We are all in awe of their service.”
Goals of the attack on Iran are to destroy its ability to launch missiles, eliminate factories producing projectiles, and target the country’s navy, he added.
The assault is intended to counter what he described as the threat posed by Iran’s clerical leadership to the region and the wider world.
