【イントロダクション】
新感覚本格時代劇アニメーション、始動。
激動の時代に生きた若者たちの刹那の青春を、オリジナルTVアニメーションとして丁寧な描写と新解釈で描き出します。
脚本は演劇集団キャラメルボックスを創立し、これまでも数多くの人気舞台を手掛け、なかでも新選組をテーマとした舞台『風を継ぐ者』をはじめとした「立川迅助シリーズ」が演劇ファン、さらには歴史ファンからも厚い支持を受けている劇作家・成井豊が担当。
音楽はロックバンド・くるりのボーカリスト／ギタリストとして知られる岸田繁が初めてTVアニメーションの劇伴を手掛け、作品世界を盛り上げます。
さらに監督は劇場アニメーション『GAMBA ガンバと仲間たち』などで3DCGによる美しい映像を生み出した河村友宏が務め、アニプレックス、Live2D、ドライブとタッグを組みLive2Dとセルアニメーションの技術を融合したまったく新しい映像表現に挑みます。

これはあの日、あの時、確かに、そこにいた。そんな彼らの物語。
【物語】
文久3年6月。京都・壬生浪士組屯所に記憶を失ったひとりの隊士が運び込まれる。
そんな彼に手を差し伸べたのは壬生浪士組助勤・沖田総司。
「あなたの名前は立川迅助ですよ」
そこから始まる記憶喪失の迅助の、隊士としての日々。
図らずも幕末の混迷のなか壬生浪士組――新選組はその存在感を増していき、
迅助たちは激動の波に呑まれていく。
そして迅助がすべての記憶を取り戻したとき、世界は大きな変貌を遂げる―――。
