1910 Shim Wrench [Patent Remake]

This wrench design is quite odd since it uses shims or blades that swing into or out of position in order for the user to adjust the wrench to he required size of the fastener.

I decided to make a much larger version of the original for this video. The wrench I made is 12" long and 3/8" thick of 4140 steel, and the shims are 1/16" wide and made of O1 tool steel. Both the wrench body and shims were heat treated and tempered to 52HRC. The most difficult aspects of remaking this wrench are making sure the back of the shims sit perfectly against the body of the wrench so that they line up perfectly parallel when in use, and making sure the shims and the gap of the wrench "mouth" are perfectly divisible by 16 so non-metric fasteners fit perfectly.
