Qatar says Hormuz crisis needs diplomatic solution as global fallout grows
Qatar's Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al Ansari held his weekly media briefing, focusing on the Strait of Hormuz crisis, ongoing mediation efforts and the wider regional fallout. He said diplomatic efforts remain underway, with Qatar continuing to exchange messages and work to bridge differences between the parties, but there was no tangible result to announce yet. Al Ansari warned that continued instability in the region would have increasingly serious consequences and said Qatar is working towards a diplomatic resolution that restores full freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. He firmly opposed targeting civilian infrastructure, energy installations and vessels, warning that such threats violate international law and the principle of good neighbourliness. On the wider economic impact, he said the world cannot afford to ignore the consequences of the conflict, with disruptions affecting energy supplies, food security, industry and global supply chains. On Iran, Al Ansari said GCC countries did not choose to be part of the war and have no separate conflict with Tehran, but called on Iran to take a clear position of non-aggression towards its neighbours. He said Qatar supports a regional security architecture based on coexistence, non-aggression and good-neighbourly relations. On Gaza, he warned of Israeli attempts to create new realities in the West Bank and East Jerusalem and rejected Israeli statements on annexing parts of southern Lebanon and Gaza.
