Community Filmmaking Leads to Empowerment | Zan Azlee | TEDxUTM
NOTE FROM TED: TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: http://storage.ted.com/tedx/manuals/tedx_content_guidelines.pdfWhat happens when communities are given the power to tell their own stories? Zan Azlee explores how cameras can move beyond documentation to become tools for expression, agency, and connection. Through his experiences working with communities and young people, he examines how storytelling can shift perspectives and give people the opportunity to be seen and heard on their own terms.
Zan Azlee is a journalist and documentary filmmaker who uses storytelling to explore communities, perspectives, and issues that are often overlooked. Through filmmaking, he has seen how access to storytelling tools can enable individuals and communities to communicate their own experiences and ideas. His work explores the power of participatory and community filmmaking not simply as a form of creative expression, but as a means of amplifying voices, building awareness, and empowering people to shape the narratives that represent them. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx Receive SMS online on sms24.me
