Although France 24 issued on-air and online apologies stating the phrasing was an editorial error, Guinean authorities rejected the apology, revoked the channel's broadcasting licence, and stripped press credentials from its correspondents. At the same time, credentials for a Jeune Afrique journalist were revoked. This move follows similar actions taken by Sahel neighbours like Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger, which have systematically pulled French media outlets off the air as they break historical military ties with France and align closer with Russia. While media watchdogs criticise the decision as a severe blow to press freedom, public opinion in the region remains split.
