Twelve years of Modi government. Some things genuinely changed for the better. UPI transformed payments. Jan Dhan brought millions into the banking system. Ujjwala reached gas cylinders to homes that never had them. These matter and they deserve acknowledgment.
But the full picture in 2026 tells a different story. Make in India's share of GDP sits at the same 16-17% it was at in 2014. The promise of 2 crore jobs a year quietly disappeared. And the jobs that exist for most young Indians today are in the gig economy. No PF. No insurance. No security.
Demonetization's surgical strike on black money landed on ordinary people instead. The RBI itself confirmed 99.3% of currency returned to banks. Smart Cities absorbed thousands of crores. Roads crack in the first rain. Namami Gange spent 40,000 crore and nearly half the water treatment infrastructure still does not function.
The real problem is not the failures themselves. The real problem is that acknowledging failure became unacceptable. Anyone who raised questions became anti-national. Course correction stopped because the conversation stopped first.
India has the potential. It has the talent. What it needs is genuine intent and, more than anything, better execution.
