Pakistan has warned its nationals against begging in Saudi Arabia during Hajj and Umrah. The Pakistani Embassy released an AI-generated video showing pilgrims being detained and deported for begging. Saudi Arabia banned begging nationwide in 2021, and more than 50,000 Pakistanis have reportedly been deported since then. Pakistanis have also faced deportations from several other countries. Meanwhile, Pakistan continues to borrow from the IMF and countries including China, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar and the US. Since Sheikh Hasina’s ouster in 2024, Pakistan and Bangladesh have held at least 10 military meetings, including a visit by Bangladesh’s intelligence chief to Islamabad in April 2026. The growing ties come amid strained India-Bangladesh relations, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman demanding Hasina’s extradition before visiting India.
