Gravity and the solar system | Middle school Earth and space science | Khan Academy
Evidence suggests that our solar system was formed from a huge cloud of gas and dust, pulled together by gravity. This process formed the Sun and the objects that orbit around it. The shape of an orbit is called an ellipse. As an object completes an orbit, its distance to the Sun changes. The closer it is to the Sun, the faster it moves. Different objects orbit different distances from the Sun. The farther an object orbits from the Sun, the more time it takes to complete an orbit.Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS):MS-ESS1-2, MS-ESS1.B.1, MS-ESS1.B.3, MS-PS2.B.2
