Soit deux fois plus qu’il y cinq ans. La même année, Pyo Ye-rim décide de prendre la parole sur ce fléau grandissant, longtemps resté tabou en Corée du Sud.
Sur les réseaux sociaux, la jeune femme témoigne du harcèlement qu’elle a subi pendant douze années sur les bancs de l’école. Sa confession publique bouleverse le pays et provoque une vague de soutien. Pyo Ye-rim devient alors le visage de la lutte pour faire changer la loi et les mentalités. Un hashtag, #balancetonharceleur, voit le jour.
Face au déferlement de milliers de témoignages, la société sud-coréenne semble enfin prendre conscience de l’ampleur du phénomène. En cause, un système éducatif ultra-compétitif qui peine à protéger les harcelés, souvent livrés à eux-mêmes. Beaucoup voient alors le suicide comme l’unique solution pour mettre un terme à leur calvaire, faisant de la Corée du Sud le pays où le taux de suicide lié au harcèlement scolaire est le plus élevé.
Pyo Ye-rim n’a pas échappé à cet engrenage. Son harcèlement reprend dix ans après, mais cette fois-ci, sur les réseaux sociaux. Elle met fin à ses jours et laisse une vidéo d’adieu avec un souhait unique : voir un jour la loi changer.
