Un AVE de Renfe y un tren de Iryo han chocado esta mañana cerca de Los Yébenes, en Toledo, en la línea Madrid-Andalucía. Es la segunda gran tragedia del año en la misma línea, nueve meses después de Adamuz, donde murieron 46 personas. Las causas de hoy aún no están confirmadas, y la primera hipótesis del Gobierno apunta a un error humano tras una avería del sistema que vigila la distancia entre trenes.
España tiene la red de alta velocidad más grande de Europa y la segunda del mundo, solo por detrás de China. Se construyó con la promesa de llevar el AVE a todas las capitales, casi 56.000 millones de euros en 35 años según la AIReF, mientras el Cercanías, que usan casi nueve de cada diez viajeros, recibía 3.600 millones. Pero de cada euro que se gasta en alta velocidad, solo 16 céntimos van a mantener lo que ya existe, menos de la mitad que en Francia o Alemania. En Adamuz la vía supuestamente renovada no lo estaba del todo, y los maquinistas llevaban meses avisando.
El problema va más allá del tren. Las carreteras se estropean cada año más deprisa de lo que se arreglan, y la inversión pública ha caído muy por debajo de la media europea mientras crecen las pensiones y los intereses de la deuda. Inaugurar da votos y mantener no. ¿Es un problema de dinero o de prioridades? ¿Algún partido se atreverá a llevarlo a la campaña?
