TURKI, KOMPAS.TV - Pemerintah Turki berencana untuk membuat jalan-jalan di seluruh negeri aman dari bahaya yang berpotensi ditimbulkan oleh anjing liar.
Rencana Undang-Undang pengendalian anjing liar itu menjadi kontroversi karena dianggap dapat menyebakan pemusnahan massal ratusan ribu anjing jalanan.
Undang-Undang itu menimbulkan kekhawatiran yang luas mengenai kesejahteraan anjing jalanan.
Publik menjadi gaduh dan aktivis hak-hak hewan melancarkan protes nasional. Hal ini karena banyak anjing jalanan yang jinak, tetapi ada pula yang agresif.
Safe Streets and Defense of The Right to Life Aassociation, sebuah organisasi yang berkampanye untuk menghilangkan semua anjing liar dari jalanan, merilis sebuah laporan, bahwa sebanyak 107 orang, terdapat 50 di antaranya yang telah tewas dalam serangan anjing jalanan sejak tahun 2022 dan mereka adalah anak-anak.
