UKRAINE-HILFE: "Merz könnte als Verlierer herausgehen" - Verzockt sich der Kanzler im EU-Poker?

Beim EU-Gipfel in Brüssel droht ein erbitterter Streit um den nächsten Siebenjahreshaushalt. Die EU-Kommission schlägt knapp zwei Billionen Euro vor, Bundeskanzler Friedrich Merz will deutlich weniger ausgeben. WELT-EU-Korrespondent Christoph B. Schiltz erklärt, warum die Positionen der Mitgliedstaaten weit auseinanderliegen. Zusätzlichen Druck erzeugt Frankreich: Marine Le Pen droht im Fall eines Wahlsiegs mit einer Halbierung der französischen EU-Zahlungen. Auch Emmanuel Macrons Forderung nach neuen EU-Steuern sorgt für Konflikte mit Deutschland. Schiltz warnt, dass Merz am Ende der Verhandlungen als Verlierer dastehen könnte – und Deutschland weiterhin der Zahlmeister Europas bleibt.
