Merespons soal reaksi publik atas pernyataannya tentang pemerkosaan massal Mei 1998, Fadli Zon menjelaskan soal bukti valid dari penggunaan kata “massal”.Lebih lanjut, ia juga mengatakan bahwa pernyataannya tersebut bukan bermaksud untuk menyangkal adanya peristiwa pemerkosaan Mei 1998, tapi mengajak semua orang bersikap dewasa memaknai peristiwa tersebut.
Fadli Zon mengatakan, data yang ada tidak menyimpulkan terjadinya pemerkosaan massal hingga menurutnya istilah itu harus digunakan secara hati-hati.
Ia juga menyebut bahwa laporan media maupun dokumen resmi negara belum pernah membuktikan secara kuat bahwa kekerasan seksual terjadi secara massal.
Hingga saat ini belum ada pernyataan maaf dari Menteri Kebudayaan, Fadli Zon atas pernyataannya yang jadi ramai tersebut.
