Exercise Keris Strike 26 is a long-standing, bilateral and multilateral military exercise designed to strengthen security partnerships, enhance interoperability, and reinforce cooperation among U.S., Malaysian, and Australian forces. Held from July 16–26, 2026, around Kota Belud in Sabah, Malaysia, the exercise showcases the U.S. Army's ability to project combat training center methodologies directly into the Indo-Pacific theater.Key Training Events and Objectives
Force-on-Force Engagements: Troops from the Guam and Oklahoma Army National Guards worked alongside the Malaysian Army’s 5th Infantry Division to execute coordinated infantry maneuvers and simulated tactical engagements. Utilizing the Multiple Integrated Laser Engagement System (MILES) and blank ammunition, these realistic drills allowed units to practice urban clearing, movement under fire, and crisis response.
Joint Mortar Training: Personnel from the Guam Army National Guard, the Malaysian Army, and the Australian Defence Force practiced setting up, aiming, and executing live-fire mortar exercises. This shared training allowed allied units to synchronize infantry tactics and cross-train on dismounted mortar operations.
Walking Blood Bank & Medical Readiness: Soldiers from the Illinois Army National Guard's 709th Medical Company Support Area led a specialized workshop on mobile field-deployable blood systems and "walking blood bank" operations. This hands-on training taught Malaysian and U.S. partner forces how to maintain, store, and manage fresh whole blood donations on-demand during emergency field scenarios where conventional blood products are unavailable.
