Danielle Smith puts Carney’s “nation-building” office to the test
On today’s episode of The Candice Malcolm Show, guest host Kris Sims takes a closer look at Premier Danielle Smith’s high-stakes challenge to Ottawa.For months, Smith has demanded the repeal of federal laws strangling Alberta’s resource sector. Now she’s making a bold move: filing paperwork directly with Prime Minister Mark Carney’s new “nation-building office” as if Alberta itself were the proponent of a new pipeline. Smith calls it a “test of whether Canada works as a country.”
But B.C. Premier David Eby is already signalling hostility, warning against threats to the provinces “pristine coast.” Kris exposes the hypocrisy of blocking Alberta oil while shipping countless other products daily through Vancouver’s busy ports.
We also hear from Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre, who says Carney only needs to do one thing: “Get out of the way.”
Kris is joined by Toronto Sun political columnist Brian Lilley who gives insight on why Carney’s “fast-track” promises may be little more than political theatre. They also tackle Ontario’s job losses and Doug Ford’s wavering record.
Also, Kris talks with Canadian Taxpayers Federation Ontario director Noah Jarvis to discuss Doug Ford’s weather vane politics — scrapping speed cameras and extending gas tax cuts on one hand, but refusing to join Alberta’s legal fight against the EV mandate and continuing to run a $14.6 billion deficit on the other.
