Polybius, El Videojuego Maldito.
¿Y si una máquina recreativa que supuestamente nunca existió estuviera detrás de una historia que lleva décadas obsesionando a Internet?Hoy nos metemos de lleno en el misterio de Polybius, la legendaria máquina arcade que, según una de las leyendas urbanas más famosas de Internet, apareció misteriosamente en Portland, Oregón, en 1981.
Un videojuego sin fabricante conocido, sin logotipo y con efectos supuestamente inquietantes sobre quienes se atrevían a jugarlo: mareos, pesadillas, pérdida de memoria e incluso control mental. Y, como no podía faltar, hombres de negro que aparecían regularmente para inspeccionar la máquina… hasta que un día desapareció.
Pero ¿cuánto hay de verdad detrás de Polybius?
En este vídeo seguimos las pistas hasta el origen de la historia, los documentos sobre MK Ultra, los casos reales de epilepsia fotosensible en los salones recreativos, los rumores sobre videojuegos peligrosos y la aparición de Polybius en Internet a finales de los años 90.
La investigación nos lleva a una conclusión bastante clara: no existe evidencia de que la máquina Polybius haya existido realmente.
Pero eso no significa que la historia no tenga nada que contarnos. Porque detrás de la leyenda hay miedos muy reales: nuestra desconfianza hacia la tecnología, el temor al control gubernamental y, sobre todo, una preocupación que hoy resulta mucho menos fantástica que en 1981: ¿quién está recopilando nuestros datos y qué está haciendo con ellos?
Una leyenda falsa construida sobre preocupaciones reales… y quizá por eso mismo, una de las historias más fascinantes de la cultura de Internet.
Y mientras tanto, alguien ha colocado una misteriosa máquina en la tiendita de la esquina…
