Rediffusé jusqu'au 15/09/2024Au sud de Londres se trouve l'un des monuments préhistoriques les plus célèbres et les plus énigmatiques du monde : Stonehenge. Il y a près de quatre mille cinq cents ans, avec de simples outils de pierre, les hommes du néolithique ont édifié cet immense cercle de pierre avec des dizaines de blocs gigantesques – 40 tonnes pour les plus gros.
Qui sont les hommes et les femmes qui les ont dressés ? Depuis plus de quinze ans, l’archéologue britannique Mike Parker Pearson dirige un programme de fouilles particulièrement ambitieux. En étudiant les échantillons d’ADN prélevés sur une centaine de squelettes retrouvés à Stonehenge, et datant du néolithique, les scientifiques ont découvert que ces bâtisseurs n’étaient pas des Britanniques de souche. Mais alors, d’où venaient-ils ?
