Langkah ini menimbulkan kekhawatiran karena lokasinya yang cukup dekat dengan Timur Tengah, tempat di mana Israel dan Iran saling serang.
Dikutip dari Al Arabiya pada Sabtu (21/6/2025), seorang pejabat Angkatan Laut AS membenarkan informasi tersebut.
Ia mengklaim, USS Gerald R. Ford berangkat ke Eropa untuk penempatan terjadwal di kawasan tersebut.
Namun, pengerahan kapal induk ketiga saat Timur Tengah memanas menimbulkan tanda tanya besar.
AS sebenarnya masih punya kapal induk USS Carl Vinson yang ditugaskan untuk melawan kelompok Houthi.
Kapal tersebut dikerahkan pada awal tahun dan masih beroperasi hingga sekarang.
Namun, setelah perang Israel-Iran pecah, AS menambah kekuatannya dengan mengerahkan USS Nimitz ke Timur Tengah.
Kapal itu sedianya hendak ke Vietnam setelah melakukan operasi rutin di Laut China Selatan.
Namun, USS Nimitz mendadak pindah haluan ke arah barat.
Kapal tersebut kemudian melewati perairan Indonesia-Malaysia untuk menuju Timur Tengah.
Menteri Pertahanan AS Pete Hegseth berdalih, USS Nimitz dikerahkan untuk melindungi pasukannya sendiri serta memperkuat pertahanan.
Belum jelas apakah Pentagon benar-benar akan terlibat langsung membantu Israel melawan Iran.
Presiden AS Donald Trump baru akan mengumumkan keputusan tersebut dua pekan lagi.
