Why is it that the more important opinions we truly want to share are, the harder they become to express?
Have you ever felt that way?
This is a talk about a girl who lost her voice—and then found it again.
Takanashi was once one of those people who kept her thoughts to herself. In the fifth grade, a traumatic experience where her bravely voiced opinion was completely rejected led her to close off her heart, believing it was wrong to express what was important to her.
However, a turning point came during her study abroad in Canada. In an environment where not speaking up meant being “non-existent,” she was overwhelmed by an intense sense of crisis, as if her own existence were fading away.
The fear of being rejected, or the fear of disappearing—which would she choose?
After an intense inner struggle, she finally voiced her thoughts with a trembling voice. What followed was a completely unexpected outcome.
In this talk, through the story of a young girl who lost her voice and then regained it, she questions the true meaning of expressing one's opinions. For those who suppress their true feelings and lack confidence, this talk offers a chance to break out of your shell and carve out your own future. Born in Saitama Prefecture, Japan, in 2006, raised in Aichi Prefecture. Loves Ramune, music, comedy, and clothes, and his hobbies are visiting second-hand clothing stores and going for walks. He is interested in social issues and areas he is unfamiliar with. Currently a first-year student at Aichi Gakuin University's School of Policy Studies. He studied abroad in Canada from January of his first year of high school to December of his second year, and gained a future goal. Since returning to Japan, he has been working steadily, mainly as a volunteer, with the aim of creating a world where no one has to give up their dreams due to poverty. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx Receive SMS online on sms24.me
