Saat dikonfirmasi pada Rabu (3/7/2024), Suharyono mengatakan dirinya merupakan pembela kebenaran bukan pelaku kejahatan.
Suharyono menegaskan, dirinya tak akan tinggal diam ketika institusinya dipojokkan.
Ia lantas menuding LBH Padang sebagai kelompok yang sok suci dan menuding mereka tengah mengatur skenario dan alibi terkait kematian Afif.
Lebih lanjut Suharyono meyakini bahwa Afif tewas karena melompat dari jembatan bukan disiksa oleh anggotanya.
Sebelumnya diberitakan bahwa kasus kematian Afif Maulana penuh dengan kejanggalan.
Direktur LBH Padang Indira Suryani menduga bocah berusia 13 tahun itu disiksa oleh polisi.
Tak hanya itu, Indira mengungkapkan bahwa pihak keluarga diminta menandatangani surat tak menuntut apa-apa.
Polisi disebut meminta agar kasus ini tak dibesar-besarkan karena Afif tewas sebagai pelaku tawuran.
Indira juga berujar bahwa ada upaya penghalangan terhadap keluarga agar tak mengungkap kasus ini.
Terkait kejanggalan kasus ini, LBH Padang dan KontraS melaporkan Kapolda Sumbar ke Propam Polri.
