Rescate de balseros cubanos - Cuba derriba dos avionetas 1996
El Gobierno cubano confirmó que la Fuerza Aérea de la isla derribo dos avionetas del Grupo Anticastrista Hermanos al Rescate procedentes de Miami y dijo que esto debe servir de elección a quiénes alientan y realizan semejantes actos. Los dos aviones fueron derribados al violar el espacio aéreo a una distancia de entre 5 y 8 millas de la playa de Baracoa, al oeste de la capital. El servicio de guardacostas norteamericano fue autorizado a entrar en aguas territoriales cubanas para realizar labores conjuntas de rescate, pero de momento no hay rastros de las dos avionetas ni de sus cuatro ocupantes. El incidente fue condenado enérgicamente por el presidente Bill Clinton, quien exigió una explicación inmediata al Gobierno cubano.
