Mehr als 1.000 Menschen verloren bei der Sturzflut im Himalaya ihr Leben. In Nepal werden Opfer schon in Massengräbern beigesetzt. Tausende Menschen werden noch vermisst, darunter hunderte Arbeiter von Wasserkraftwerken, die in Tunneln vermutet werden. Ursache der Katastrophe war ein Gletscherabbruch. Solche Sturzfluten, wenn auch nicht ganz so heftig, können jederzeit an tausenden Stellen dort passieren, sagt der Geowissenschaftler Prof. Niels Hovius. Die Sturzflut raste letztlich mit einer Geschwindigkeit von rund 150 km/h ins Tal, so Hovius. Es blieben nur wenigen Minuten, sich zu retten. Und die Menschen müssten wissen, wohin sie flüchten sollten.Kapitel:
